2018-2019 Whitney PTA Board Members (from left to right): Cheryl Neuwirth, Karla DeCamp, Cherree Abbott, Hank Becker

PTA Co-President – Cherree Abbott

Hello I am Cherree Abbott, a former elementary teacher, wife, and a mom of three littles! I am passionate about supporting teachers and students in their efforts to provide and receive the best education possible! I’m excited to partner with all of you this year to help make that happen for our fabulous teachers and students! Can’t wait to get to know each of you!

PTA Co-President – Karla DeCamp

Hello, my name is Karla DeCamp and I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s PTA team.  My husband and I have a college freshman at Western and a Kindergartner in Mrs. Swapp’s class.   I grew up on Guemes Island and was a part of the ASD from Kindergarten to 12th grade, class of ’93!  I truly love this community, in partiular the love of education, music, and arts that many share here. I am a small business owner, and I just started a local Non-profit foundation.  I am committed and eager in helping bring a positive and healthy learning environment to your children, teachers, and staff. I look forward to getting to know you all and working together to do some amazing things this year!

PTA Secretary: Cheryl Neuwirth

My name is Cheryl Neuwirth, a former librarian, wife, and mom of two. Our family has been a part of Whitney since 2014. My son started in the YMCA program, continued with Ms. Kathleen & Ms. Jeanette in Pre-K and is now (finally!) a proud Kindergartener!  My son is in Mrs. Kitterman’s class. Our school may be small, but our job is BIG!  This is the first school experience for many Whitney Dragons and their parents. This is the time that we set a standard of participation and advocacy for our kids and their school. I’m excited to collaborate with the Whitney community to make this a successful and meaningful year.

PTA Treasurer – Hank Becker

My name is Hank Becker and I’m entering my third year as a Whitney parent. My wife Miri and I moved to Anacortes for the great schools and natural beauty of Fidalgo Island, and we feel fortunate to be raising our three kids here. We wholeheartedly support the Anacortes School District, and are especially fond of the Whitney school community. Our first experiences at Whitney helped us fall in love with island life, and prepared my oldest child for success in ASD. I’m looking forward to helping everyone become a member of the Whitney family this year! I hope to meet many new people at school events and around the playground soon!
